A businessman arrives in a small town for an important meeting, and realizes he should probably get a quick trim and shave in order to look his best for his meeting. Checking his smartphone, he discovers there is a barber at each end of the commercial street in the center of town. Having some time before his meeting, he decides to check out both barbers, then make a decision.
The first barbershop is spotlessly clean and well-kept. The barber is dressed nicely and has a clean shave and a very stylish haircut. The businessman takes note, and ventures down the street to check out the competition.
The businessman is startled to discover that the second barbershop is quite the opposite of the first: the shop is a mess, with magazines scattered on the table, piles of unswept hair litter the floor, and the barber is unshaven, with messy hair that looks like it had an unfortunate run-in with a weed whacker. He also looks rather tired.
The businessman considers his options for a moment, and then marches resolutely into the second barber shop, certain that he's going to get the haircut and shave that will help him make the right impression at his meeting.
"What does this story have to do with web design?", you may be asking. Possibly everything.
Barbers seldom, if ever, cut their own hair, so the businessman knew he'd get the good haircut in the messy shop. In a similar sense, designers don't always have time to work on their own marketing materials, because they're so busy attending to their clients needs. At the moment, this is the case with Digital Zen. Please pardon our lack of attention to our own site... our clients come first.
